This episode of Out of the Frame : Conversations about Photography is a special episode featuring three guest artists from PHOTO2024, Isadora Romero, Jemima Wyman and Carmen Winant talking to host Pia Johnson about each of the their practices and notions of photography as activism.

Isadora Romero is an Ecuadorian photographer and visual storyteller based in Quito. Her work is a frontier between documentary and art photography, focusing on social justice and environmental issues. Jemima Wyman’s practice encompasses performance, video, installation, collage, photography and painting. Her recent work focuses on protective coverings (patterns, masking and smoke) used by marginalized groups to gain power during conflict. Carmen Winant is an artist and the Roy Lichtenstein Chair of Studio Art at the Ohio State University. Her work utilizes installation and collage strategies to center modes of feminist exchange and social movement building, with particular emphasis on intergenerational and multiracial solidarity.

This episode of Out of the Frame: Conversations about Photography features 3 interviews with guest artists from the Photo2024 Festival: Clifford Prince King, Elyssia Wilson-Heti (FAFSWAG) and Sunil Gupta with Charan Singh, talking about queer voices in photography.

Self-taught US artist Clifford Prince King documents his intimate relationships in traditional, everyday settings that speak to his experiences as a queer Black man. Elyssia Wilson-Heti is an interdisciplinary artist, activist and member of FAFSWAG. She is of mixed Niuean and European heritage. Elyssia is producer for the FAFSWAG Arts Collective, having produced live performances, community events, arts panels and activations. Sunil Gupta is a British/Canadian citizen, (b. New Delhi 1953) MA (RCA) PhD (Westminster) who lives in London and has been involved with independent photography as a critical practice for many years focusing on race, migration and queer issues. Charan Singh’s (b. 1978, India) research and practice are informed by his involvement with HIV/AIDS work and community activism, that uses the mediums of photography, video and text to explore his 'pre-English language' life to creates artistic resistance through storytelling and fictional fragments to express multi-layered gender experiences and the ephemeral nature of queer desire.
